The XD Android project has been helping WinMo phone users load an Android operating system on their phone for some time now, but recently the folks behind this mobile mash-up decided to try it again with a newer handset, the HTC Touch Pro 2. This process seems simple enough—and according to them, it is—and the best part about this project is the results. We love HTC phones for so many reasons, but what we truly appreciate is how versatile and accessible these handsets are. In this video, first reported by PocketNow, we see an HTC Touch Pro 2 demonstrate a deliciously speedy boot-up of Android and some astounding capabilities such as working calls, SMS, the addition of shortcuts and other data.
If you want to get Android on your Windows Mobile phone, check out these links provided by PocketNow’s report. The report reads: “Want Android on your Windows phone, but not sure where to look? We’ve got you covered, so check out some of the links we’ve collected. You'll want to check the thread designated for your device. Installation instructions may vary,... [Read More]

Cross posted from the YouTube blog
Last March, we launched the YouTube Mobile app for Nokia S60 and Windows Mobile phones. Since then, the application was translated to 12 languages, installed on millions of devices around the world, and has been chosen as a Nokia Ovi Top App of 2009. Today we’re excited to announce the release of the latest version of the YouTube Mobile app, version 2.4.
We strongly believe that faster is better. The YouTube Mobile app is designed to be the fastest way to find and play a video on your smartphone. In the initial release we minimized the number of features and focused on speed for things that matter - app startup, finding a video, and starting playback.
In today’s release we have added search query suggestions, ‘My Account’ support, and a new homescreen user interface that is optimized for... [Read More]

As I was sitting on the plane heading to GDC 2010, I started reminiscing about the explosive growth we’ve seen in developing for the mobile gaming industry over the last few years. It wasn’t long ago when we had to show up early to learn about anything related to game development on portable devices. This year, however, developers are already lined up to learn more, as mobile gaming commands several summits at GDC and is woven in throughout the conference.
At GDC this week we’re giving everyone a first look at the latest and greatest, XNA Game Studio 4.0, which provides a powerful, productive, and portable technology for game development on Windows Phone 7 Series, Xbox 360, and Windows PC.

The Boy Genius Reports are linking to a CNN report on the whole Apple/HTC patent dispute. In this case there is an interesting Microsoft angle. They claim that device manufacturers are getting twitchy about Apple's pending dispute with HTC and it's ramifications for Android.
In step Microsoft, promising that they own all the IP to Windows Phone 7 Series and offering the protect any manufacturer from future legal action in the event of unintentional infringements. Good to see MS being so quick off the mark to spot and take advantage of a potential opening.

"Hi Honey I'm home!" Well it's good to be back into the WM fold after straying away over the past year, first to the Nokia E71 with Symbian and then the iPhone 3Gs before coming back to WM with a bang via the HD2. My mobile device experiences over the past year have been an eye-opener for me in terms of what is out regarding choice and functionality, in a way that simply wouldn't have been experienced had I... Over the years since the advent of the Personal Digital Assistant, there have been a number of popular form factors, and this trend may be set for a shake-up over the next couple of years.
My personal involvement began in 1989 with the Microwriter AgendA, a handheld device with two lines of display and a unique method of entering text by the use of one handed finger buttons. It worked well but the limitations of its lack... [Read More]
